Myofascial Release (MFR)

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a gentle yet profoundly effective hands-on technique, focusing on the fascia—the dense, web-like connective tissue that contains every muscle, bone, organ, and nerve. By applying sustained, gentle pressure (lasting five minutes or longer), MFR releases fascial restrictions caused by injury and trauma, restoring length and flexibility to the tissue. This can alleviate chronic pain and eliminate the root cause of many seemingly unrelated symptoms, such as headaches, neck stiffness and low back pain. How can this reduce the effects of trauma and stress? The fascial network acts as a living record, storing and hiding physical and emotional trauma and chronic stress, and limiting motion as a defense mechanism. MFR techniques, particularly Unwinding, allow the body to organically move and release these stored emotional and physical restrictions, offering a safe and deep way to process this tension and holding patterns. Unwinding is when the body sometimes starts to untwist on its own, and when supported by the therapist this can produce very deep results.

Craniosacral Therapy (CST)

Craniosacral Therapy (CST), Using a touch generally no heavier than a nickel to gently hold the head and body, the therapist helps to increase the flow of cerebral spinal fluid and therefore release deep restrictions in the soft tissue around the spinal cord. Since the control of relaxation is primarily located in the spinal cord, this helps the body shift from “flight or fight” to a state of deep rest and healing.

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT)

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) uses targeted, static pressure, on highly sensitized areas (knots and trigger points), slow gliding and stretching on individual muscles. This works to deactivate the painful trigger points, which are responsible for causing both localized pain and referred pain (pain felt elsewhere in the body), restoring blood flow to the muscle and releasing chronic contraction. NMT effectively treats issues like sciatica, shoulder pain, piriformis syndrome, and carpal tunnel symptoms. When pain is diminished, the nervous system can relax and focus on healing.

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient healing practice where cups are placed on the skin and create suction to produce negative pressure. This process draws up underlying tissues—muscle, fascia, and skin—into the cup. This lift separates the layers of tissue, promotes increased circulation, and facilitates the drainage of stagnant fluids and toxins. I loosens thickened tissue that might be resistant to manual myofascial release techniques.

Reiki

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through all of us. The practitioner uses gentle, non-invasive touch or hands-hovering to facilitate the flow of this energy (Ki or Chi) to promote balance in the body's energy centers. Reiki can dramatically reduce pain and produce a state of deep, meditative calm.

The BodyTalk SystemTM

The BodyTalk SystemTM is a comprehensive, whole-healthcare system that uses consciousness-based techniques to identify and re-establish the body's internal communication. The practitioner uses a specialized tapping procedure (on the head to stimulate the brain and on the heart to store the correction) to help the body heal and relax by helping to restore normal communication. I have studied this extensively, but I only practice a few of the many techniques BodyTalk offers.

Massage

Swedish Massage is the foundation of Western massage, involving long, gliding strokes (effleurage), kneading (petrissage), cross fiber friction, tapping (tapotement), and joint movement. It is primarily used for generalized relaxation, improving circulation, and easing superficial muscle tension. This is very helpful for pain management and stress reduction.Deep Tissue can be similar to Swedish but deeper, or go more into individual muscles and less into long strokes.Sports Massage is a more vigorous, deep tissue modality that uses techniques like compression, friction, joint mobilization and stretching, primarily aimed at preparing muscles for optimal performance or helping them recover from strenuous activity and prevent and recover from injury.

Prenatal and post-natal massage

Prenatal and post-natal massage is massage for pregnant women, it is done after the first trimester, and usually done in a side-lying and sometimes reclining position, using support pillows. The trained practitioner is able to release painful areas, often in the hips, in a safe and relaxing fashion, and promote circulation and relaxation. After birth, massage can help to restore hormonal and muscular balance for the mother, and treat any stress.

Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic Drainage. The lymphatic system is a network in the body that helps clean and detoxify the entire body. Through cells, the system filters and redirects waste to the bloodstream, where it’s disposed. When the lymphatic system is disrupted, fluid, or lymph, can build up in tissues and cause swelling. Lymphatic drainage massage is designed to encourage the movement of lymph fluid through the body’s lymphatic system. During the treatment, a trained therapist uses different types of strokes to guide excess fluid from swollen or congested tissues toward active lymph nodes, and stimulate those nodes to decongest.

Bach Flower Remedies

Bach Flower Remedies are natural solutions made from flower essences, developed by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1910s, intended to help balance emotions and improve emotional well-being. Each of the 38 remedies corresponds to specific emotional states. Dr. Bach believed that in balancing and healing an excess emotional state, sickness and pain can be alleviated.
